Metamorphosis and Me
After completing my essay on The Metamorphosis, it made me think about how the book relates to my life. I wondered how much each choice I made everyday was affected by my tendency for conformity. It lead me to think about how much of our choices, even the ones that feel organic and original, may have been influenced by interactions with others. Being my own person has always seemed like it was natural but critically analyzing conformity has made me wonder and question who Cyrus is and where he came from; what has unconsciously motivated me to be who I am today. Furthermore, how different would I be were I to have grown up in different friend groups or at a different school? How much of who I am today can be traced back to the neighborhood I grew up in. How different would Cyrus be, if he were not Cyrus?
